LONDON FASHION WEEK SS27: FAM IRVOLL

29.9.26

London Fashion Week is often known for its wonderwall of creativity, individualism and diversity, and this season was no exception, with designers from all walks of life arriving to showcase their finest stories and ventures.

Fam Irvoll, a designer from Norway, offered us excitement, an assorted exuberance of vibrancy and, above all else, infectious fun.

The collection took us through a whole wave of nostalgia, modernism and playfulness, with the 3D fabric floral pieces and prints making their way through the collection, to shimmery disco plates on the tote dresses that offered us bedazzle and wonder. This season, Irvoll continued to stay true to her maximalist aesthetic.

Ruffled tulle lace ball gowns and unconventional denims were a recurring theme throughout the collection, with gowns making their debuts in features of fuchsia and navy blues, and denim jackets, dresses and bottoms showcasing in leafy, minty greens, blacks and the traditional blues.

Some were coated in American symbolism, with basketball badges nodding straight back to Irvoll’s experience in the NYC life and clubbing scene. Lots of American references continued to shape the collection, with oversized shirts and bottoms that pay tribute to the Hip-Hop scene, and collar tops that lean more into a Tommy Hilfiger touch, which Irvoll also deems as an inspiration.

The oversized bottoms would finish off with a decoration of beaded keychains that pair much of a juxtaposing hybrid of streetwear and chic glamour.

And there was more as to where that came from, as the models were also spotted wearing assorted adornments of embellished and gemstone earrings that were also reminiscent of bright candy droplets, giving us the eye candy that they’re not just good enough to look at, but also good enough to eat (not literally!).

Body gems consisted of elaborate crystals, taking us back to our childhood school disco days, where it was a time of camaraderie, glitter body spray, confetti and innocence.

It also reminded me of a book that I never used to read as a little girl (only brought the book for the cover lol!), although it featured a group of girls named the “Glitter Girls”, where their Y2K girly pink, white and blue denim outfits were finished off with a wave of body gems and glittery shimmer.

They were the cool kids that would be out on a girls’ night to disco… on a weekend away after a school week, whereas the adult version back in those days would be having a night out, going clubbing and dancing to ’90s/early 2000s dance music after a long week or day of work or university.

Lastly, the soundtrack — also intentional, taking us through a journey of nostalgia with dance classics from artists such as The Prodigy and Sash!
